Michael S. Schmidt, 60, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018.

He was born on September 10, 1957 in Hoisington, KS to Gustave August and Bonnie Dean (Shipman) Schmidt. He graduated from Hoisington High School and went on to earn degrees from Colby Community College and Fort Hays State University.

Michael worked various jobs throughout his life, and enjoyed staying busy. He worked as an EMT, respiratory therapist aid, and most recently as a driver for the KABVI (Kansas Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired).

He enjoyed drawing and wood burning, and was very artistic. He also enjoyed fishing, cooking, music and Boy Scouting, earning the District Award of Merit and the Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor. He especially loved to dance, and spending time with friends and family. He was a Stephen Minister in the Lutheran Church to those that had been through similar life experiences.

He is survived by sons, Johnathan Schmidt, and Stephen Cornett; brothers, Jerry D. Schmidt (Freda), David Schmidt (Phyllis), Randy Schmidt (Kerry Helms); sisters, Sharon Gray, Judy Moskalew (Tim), Angela Fowler (Larry); and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, Byron Wesley Schmidt.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, 1234 SW Fairlawn Rd.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church.
