Vernon LeRoy Johnson, 84, of Eskridge, passed away on May 6, 2018.

He was born on June 3, 1933 in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Harry Vernon and Dossie Flo (Tinsley) Johnson. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, retiring as Staff Sergeant in 1973.

Vernon later retired as a truck driver for Bayer Stone in 1998.

He was a member of Paxico United Methodist Church.

Vernon married Margot H. Schepper on January 26, 1958 in Germany. They later divorced. He married Sharon K. Senne on December 23, 1976 in Alma, Kansas. She preceded him in death on June 5, 2016. Survivors include eight children; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister; and a brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister in infancy; and a brother.

Vernon enjoyed any outdoor activity, especially fishing.

Honoring Vernon’s request, cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Alma United Methodist Church, 627 Missouri Ave, Alma, KS 66401. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
