Seth Emerson Cummings

Seth Emerson Cummings, 17, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018. He was diagnosed with Stage IV Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma on February 2, 2018.

He was born October 15, 2000 in Topeka, to Angela and Edward Matthews. He came to live with John and Heather Cummings on June 25, 2013 and was adopted by them on August 18, 2014.

He was a junior Honor Role student at Topeka West High School where he participated in Track and Field. He was a Cadet Sargent Major with the Junior ROTC. He received the Superior Junior Cadet Decoration Award, and the 535 Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion Award for Leadership Excellence. He was a member of the JROTC Raider Team and received a Certificate of Achievement. He was also a member of the JROTC Drill Team and participated in Armed Regulation, Unarmed Regulation, Unarmed Exhibition, Armed Exhibition and Varsity Color Guard. His dream was to join the military and serve his country.

Survivors include his girlfriend, Allyson Harris; parents, John and Heather Cummings; birth mother, Angela Matthews; sisters, Kirstyn and Jordan Cummings; brothers, Zadiouz Stone-Kirk and Logan Neal; birth sisters, Mataya and Danika Homan; half-brother, Jacob Matthews; other siblings by heart, Britney Hien, Tabor Brown, Nathan Peeples and Amarean Epps; niece, Lola Beaty; nephew, Kieran Beaty; grandparents, Patrick and Kelli Hathaway, Glenda Mull, John and Andrea Cummings; great-grandparents, Ruth Mull and Galen Campbell; uncles, Patrick (Keeli) Hathaway, Jr., Dallas (Alana) Hathaway and Mark (Heather) Cummings; aunts, Ginger Hathaway and Alyce Shah; great-uncle, Mike Hathaway; great-aunt, Delores Smith; cousins, Amira, Lily, Emilie, Haylee, Zaylee and Kaysley; an honorable mention, cousin, Ben Walker.

He was preceded in death by birth father, Edward Matthews; and grandmas, Betty Boop and Janet Hathaway-Campbell.

Seth enjoyed gaming, traveling, hiking, bicycling with family, shooting guns and spinning his rifle.

Cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Combat Air Museum, Hanger #602 Bay, 7016 SE Forbes Ave, Topeka, KS 66619. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.
