In Memory Of
Rex E. Gary
1929 - 2018

Rex E. Gary, 88 yrs. old of Berryton, KS. passed away June 30, 2018. He was born September 27, 1929 in Picher, OK., the son of Kenneth Gary and Melrene Ryan Gary, Baker. He was raised by his Grandmother Mrs. Ida Gary, whom he loved and was grateful for as he was raised with good Christian principles. Rex was married to Gloria Maxine Trimble Gary for 52 years until her passing Nov. 13, 2004, with whom he shared a wonderful life.

Survivors include: a son David & wife Debra, a daughter Gina & her husband Mark Robertson. Grandchildren: Dustin & wife Jill Gary, Jason & wife Clare Gary and Danielle Gary & her fiancé Aaron Neff. Great-Grandchildren include: Aiden Ryan Gary, Piper Elizabeth Gary & Andralyn Elizabeth Howey (children of Jason & Clare). Lorelei Jene Gary, Arabel Dawn Gary & Dexter Maverik Gary (children of Dustin & Jill). Family was very important to Gloria and Rex. They were extremely proud of their Children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.

Rex served in the Air Force as a gunner on a B-29 during the Korean War, he returned to Topeka after being held as a POW for 8 months. There were tough times but his service to his country allowed him to meet and subsequently marry his loving wife, Gloria. Following his repatriation, he used the GI bill to assist in attending Kansas University, for which he was always grateful to the government for. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. His children and grandchildren are all college graduates, some with advanced degrees, having successful careers which all came about partially because he was able to go to college through the GI Bill assistance program.

Rex was a Civil Engineer and worked 39 years for the Kansas Department of Transportation. Working in many different positions, all of which he enjoyed, especially his co-workers, so it never really felt like work.

He realized a lifetime dream of training and becoming a pilot at age 60 (and with only one eye).

A visitation with the family will be held Friday, July 6th from 6pm - 8pm at Dove Cremations & Funerals- Southeast Chapel - 2843 SE Minnesota, Topeka, KS.
The celebration of his life service will be held at the Berryton United Methodist Church Saturday at 10 am - 7010 SE Berryton Rd., Berryton, KS 66409. Graveside interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens - 820 SW Auburn Rd., Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Berryton United Methodist Church or to Midland Care Hospice 200 SW Frazier Cir. Topeka, KS 66606.
