Irvin E."Gene" Gaddis age 87 of Topeka, Kansas passed away July 14, 2018 at a local care facility.

Gene was born February 23, 1931, in Parsons, Kansas, the son of Ivan and Ethel (Holland) Gaddis. He was a 1948 graduate of Parsons High School then attended Labette Community College.

In his youth, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He retired after 44 years with the Katy and Santa Fe railroads.

Gene was united in marriage to Barbara L.(Barr) Schell June 17, 1983. She survives of the home. He is survived by his daughter, Marla (Chris) Bailey, Hoyt, KS; his adopted son, Robert Gaddis, Jay, OK; step-children: Jolene (Mac) Archer, Nixa, MO, Gregg (Sue) Schell, Topeka, and Kathy (Matt) Hecker, Pratt,KS. Other survivors include his brother, Jerry Gaddis, Topeka, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his adopted son, Ed Gaddis; and his sisters, Audrey Reed and Betty Anderson.

Cremation is planned. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service which will be held July 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.at Dove Cremations and Funerals-Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota, Topeka, KS 66605

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
