Vernon August Rosenow

Vernon August "Vern" Rosenow, 73, of Topeka, went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 30, 2018.

He was born August 2, 1945, in Litchfield, Minnesota, the son of Louis Karl Otto and Marie Maida (Seefeldt) Rosenow. He was a 1963 graduate of Litchfield High School. He joined the U.S. Navy after graduation, serving from 1963-1966 in the Philippines. He spent 2 years in Vietnam working as a civilian contractor for Page Communications from 1966-1968. He was employed by Sperry Univac at various cities in Kansas from 1968-1991.

Vern owned and operated Vern's Liquor in Topeka from 1991 until 2013 before turning it over to his son.

He was a member of various American Legion Posts throughout Kansas.

Vern married Sharon Boese on May 17, 1969 in Litchfield, MN. They later divorced. He married Peggy (Cross) Huffman on June 24, 2000 in Carbondale, Kansas. Vern is survived by his wife, Peggy of Topeka; his son, Aaron (Aimee) Rosenow of Topeka; step sons, Chad Huffman of Carbondale and Dustin Huffman of Wichita; nine grandchildren, Annalise, Avery and Archer Rosenow, all of Topeka, Dylan, Tyler and Calli Huffman, Carbondale, Blake, Brynn Huffman of Wichita and Brodie Huffman of Topeka; two sisters, Brenda Rick of Litchfield and Debbie (Gary) Horne of Maui, HI; his brother, Bradley Rosenow of Lino Lakes, MN; five brothers-in-law, Ret. Lieutenant General James Sherrard III, Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Willis Croonquist of Maple Grove, MN, John (Debbie) Cross of Scranton, KS, Mike (Sam) Cross of Carbondale, Jeff (Diana) Cross, Scranton, KS; a sister-in-law, Chris Cross of Carbondale; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marsha Sherrard and Rita Croonquist; and brothers-in-law, Joey Rick and Steve Cross.

Vern enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, and was a sports fan, especially KSU and Minnesota Vikings. He was known for his infectious laugh and "The Rosenow Look". He will be missed by all who knew him.

Honoring Vern's request, cremation is planned. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., Friday, October 5, 2018. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, Kansas.

Private family inurnment will be at Carbondale Cemetery, Carbondale, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus Cancer Center, 1700 SW 7th St., Topeka, KS 66606-1690 or the charity of the donor's choice.
