In Memory Of
Gary W. Vines
1957 - 2018
He attended Topeka High School and joined the U.S. Marines in 1975. That year Gary was recognized as being the youngest Marine on active duty during the celebration of the Marine Corps anniversary.
He was a self-taught auto mechanic and worked at Crocker’s Auto Service, Adams Business Forms, and the State Printing Plant.
Gary had the unique ability of being able to diagnose almost any problem with an engine, as well as being able to fix and repair just about anything. He restored a 1972 Ford Maverick and 1974 Dodge Challenger. He and Verla enjoyed taking both cars to local cruises on Saturday nights. Gary loved a good story, and could spin a few tales of his own.
Survivors include his wife, Verla; sons, Gary, Jr (Amanda), Steven (Danna), Troy (Erin) and Rick Blankenship; daughters, Sonya, Trisha Breese (Chad), and Jeannie; his mother, Loretta Mulvihill; brothers, Dennis (Esther), Don (Lisa), Brad, Scott Mulvihill; and sisters, Diana Hurd (Chuck), and Linda Hubert. Gary was blessed with 17 grandchildren.
Those attending Gary’s service are encouraged to wear their favorite Chiefs, Royals or KU apparel.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care or Helping Hands Humane Society.
