Maxine Opal Smallback, 95, of Topeka, formerly of Coldwater Lake Michigan, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018.

She was born November 25, 1922, in Greensburg, Indiana, the daughter of William E. and Pearl (Blair) Dean. She was a graduate of Morton Memorial High School, Knightstown, Indiana.

Maxine was a beautician serving the Ft. Wayne, Indiana area until retiring.

She was a member of a square dance club in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Maxine married William “Bill” Smallback on April 4, 1947 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2006. Survivors include several nieces and nephews of Topeka and Indiana; and a sister-ini-law, Betty Dean of Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Dale and Cecil Dean.

Maxine enjoyed square dancing, gardening, cooking, baking and her canine companions. She was a thoughtful, kind and loving person.

Cremation is planned. A private family gathering will be at a later date. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
