Phyllis A. Schmidt, 65, Topeka, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 at a local hospital.

Phyllis was born June 26, 1953 in Wamego, the daughter of William J. and Mary E. (Wenzl) Homan. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1971 and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University, the University of Kansas with her Master’s degree and the University of Nebraska with a Certification of Instruction of the Blind and Visually Impaired.

She taught at K.N.I. and USD-609 Greenbush for 40 years, retiring in 2014.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church where she started Friends in Faith, a Cub Scout Leader with Pack #118 and served on the Board of Directors for K.A.B.V.I.

Phyllis married David Schmidt on August 10, 1974 in St. Mary’s. He survives. Other survivors include son, Alan (Tahira) Schmidt, Hoyt; grandchildren, Jordan and Cordae Schmidt; siblings, Mary Kay (Bob) Elder, Bob (Janet) Homan, Steve Homan, Greg Homan, Mark Homan, Lynette Homan and James Homan. She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, William Schmidt.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, 1234 SW Fairlawn. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
