Helen L. Hayes, 91, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018 at a Topeka care facility. She was born October 8, 1927 in Topeka, the daughter of Frank E. and Myrtle B. (Crable) Smith.

Helen was employed as an LPN for Stormont-Vail Hospital for several years before retiring.

Helen married Fremont B. Hayes on November 27, 1976 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1994. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Talbert and Phillip and by three brothers, Dick L. Smith, Ronnie D. Smith and Bill L. Smith and two sisters, Betty Losh and Barbara Brown.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy A. Lingham of Gainsville, Texas and Debbie S. Green of Pueblo, Colorado, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and her siblings, Jerry Smith of Palisade, Minnesota, JoAnn Lyden of Topeka and Emma Osborne of Topeka.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2018 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave where the family will receive friends 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Capper / Easter Seals Foundation, 3500 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66606.
