Gary was born February 14, 1954 in Wetmore, the son of Walter and Marjorie (Shrouf) McDaniel. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1972 and attended Kaw Valley Technical School.
He was employed by Star Construction in Emporia for 19 years and recently retired due to medical reasons. He had worked in concrete construction for over 47 years.
Gary was an avid gardener, an excellent cook and enjoyed fishing.
His daily message to his wife was, "If I haven't told you today, I want you to know that I love you"
Gary married Marlene Mize on August 17, 1994 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include daughter, Jaycee (Shaun) Moore, Melvern; granddaughters, Laurayne, Nataleigh and Jolene; son, Nathan Rodgers, Kansas City; his mother, Joan McDaniel, Topeka; sister, Cindy Moore, Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Ronald McDaniel.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. A visitation will follow the service.
