Lyla Lou (Ralston) Accardi, 72, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Midland Hospice House.

She was born December 20, 1946, in Holton, Kansas, the daughter of Floyd Earl and Mable Elizabeth (Horton) Ralston. She was a 1964 graduate of Washburn Rural High School.

Lyla was self-employed as a financial broker in Topeka and served as a pit boss at the Carson City Nugget Casino, Carson City, Nevada. She retired from investments but continued in entrepreneurial ventures with Excel Communications, Shaklee International, Well Card and Legal Shield, as well as an officiant as the "The Wedding Goddess".

She volunteered for Topeka Faith In Action for two years, Midland Care Findables Upscale Resale for 12 years, known for her window display for the store for eight years. She had served as Treasurer for Washburn Rural High School Classes. She also organized the Horton Family reunions for many years.

Lyla was a Soroptimist International Member in Topeka and held local and regional positions, including President of the Local Chapter. She also served as President for a number of years for the AWE Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Topeka, and help lead the Wedding Guild for a few years.

Lyla married Joseph Michael Accardi. They later divorced. Survivors include two children, Anthony E. Accardi of Topeka and Deborah Diahn Accardi and her husband, Rodney Brown of Reno, NV; a sister-in-law, Winona Ralston of Topeka; very close friends, Dianna Wege-Randolph, and her husband, James Randolph of Savannah, GA and Nancy Harms and her husband, Ed Harms of Topeka; her canine companion, Reno; and her African Gray Parrot, Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Melvin Ralston; and her nephew, Bryan Ralston.

Honoring her request, cremation is planned. A celebration of life ceremony will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2019 at Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka.
