Jay D. Matthias, 79, of Tecumseh, passed away Monday, September 2, 2019.

He was born November 27, 1939, in Robinson, Kansas, the son of Fred Henry and Myrtle Elizabeth (Thorne) Matthias .

Jay was employed by Chevrolet dealerships (Ship Winter and Crown) in Lawrence, KS as an auto mechanic retiring in 2001.

Jay married Marilyn Thomas on February 21st, 1976.

He loved his gardens, bird watching and fishing. He was an all-around avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include wife, Marilyn Matthias, two sons, William (Bill) Matthias and Travis Matthias; six grandchildren, William C. Matthias II, Rebecca Noblet, Bradley Matthias, Mason Matthias, Jacelyn Matthias, Noelle Matthias; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Deacon Matthias; a brother, Mark Matthias; sisters, Wilma Alexander, Catherine Soyland, Carol Robertson, and Janice Kuhnert

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred, Lawrence, Henry and a sister, Lois.

A memorial ceremony will be held on Saturday September 7th at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 400 S. 6th Street, Atchison KS. Lunch served at 12:00 pm and memorial service at 1:30 pm until 4:00 pm.
