Marilyn Louise Mason-Stanton, 91, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019.

She was born November 14, 1927, in San Francisco, California, the daughter of William and Charlotte (Irgens) Mason. After graduation from the University of California, Berkeley, Mrs. Stanton went on to an accomplished career as a Registered Nurse in the field of breast cancer research at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. Among her many achievements, she spent six months living in a grass hut in the bush of South Africa doing field research. After inventing an important technique used in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, Mrs. Stanton lectured at the National Institute of Health, Johns Hopkins, and several universities around the world. Upon retirement, Mrs. Stanton was presented with a lifetime achievement award, and was acclaimed for her exceptional professionalism and dedication, compassion, and abilities.

Marilyn married James Eugene Stanton on August 29, 1992 in Phoenix, AZ.

Marilyn Stanton is survived by her devoted husband, Captain James Stanton of Topeka; her children, Brad Krones, of New Port Richey, FL and Sharon Holman, of Glastonbury, CT; two step-sons, Steve Stanton and his wife, Catherine, Ozawkie, KS and Robert Stanton, Dennison, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Burton H. Mason.

Marilyn enjoyed extensive traveling throughout the world with her husband, Jim. To her many friends, Marilyn has left the joy and pleasure of knowing her and many happy memories.

Cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Alex's Lemonade Stand, 333 Lancaster, Suite 414, Wynnwood, PA. 19096.
