Richard Angus Lathrop, Jr., 87, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2020, in his home surrounded by family. He was born June 25, 1932 in Muskogee, OK, the son of Richard A. and Cecile (Erickson) Lathrop, Sr.
Richard graduated from Texas A & M in 1954 with a degree in Architectural Engineering. After college, he served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company for over 25 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church.
Richard married Josephine Ann Stone on June 17, 1956, in Cedar Vale, Kansas. She died on July 9, 2017. Survivors include son Kent (Becky) Lathrop; grandchildren Andrew (Jennifer), Mitchell, Alexander, Benjamin and Catherine; great-grandsons Solomon and Silas, brother John and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; infant daughter, Jane; and son, Eric.
Private family inurnment will be held in the courtyard at St. David’s Episcopal Church at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. David’s Episcopal Church, 3916 SW 17th, Topeka, KS 66604; or the Alzheimer’s Association of Topeka, 3625 SW 29th #102, Topeka KS 66614.
