Lucy (Meade) Thompson-Broadbent, 85, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020.

Lucy was born June 23, 1934, in Neuchatel, Kansas, the daughter of Alva Meade and Mildred (Moris) Griffey. She graduated from Centrailia High school in 1953.

Lucy held several jobs throughout her life. They included the American Book Bindery, Montgomery Wards, Pruitt Appliance and The State of Kansas Department of Motor Vehicle.

She was a member of the Northland Christian Church, Topeka, KS and Berryton United Methodist Church, Berryton, KS. She was an active volunteer at her church and supported her state by assisting voters during elections.

Lucy married Donald Thompson, Sr. and of that union they had six children and later divorced. She then married William Broadbent and he preceded her in death. While exercising at the White Lakes Mall she met Simon Hernandez. They have spent approximately 13 years together. Lucy and Simon enjoyed going out and eating with one another and spending all their time together.

Lucy loved sports, spending time outdoors, Christian concerts, cooking and most of all serving her Lord.

Lucy is survived by her longtime companion, Simon Hernandez of Topeka; her children, Donna Boyer of Topeka, Carolyn Gipson of Mississippi, Donald Thompson, Jr., of Topeka, Cynthia DaPrato of Topeka, Kenneth Thompson of Carbondale and Douglas Thompson of Topeka; a sister, Ada Kelly; 4 half-brothers, Alva, Robert, Ed and Craig; one half-sister, Kay; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a husband, William; two brothers, Everett and Ronald; and a half-brother, Larry.

Honoring Lucy’s request, cremation was planned. A family conducted memorial ceremony will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Christ Lutheran Church, 3509 SW Burlingame Rd, Topeka, KS 66611. Burial of the cremated remains will be at Rochester Cemetery, 1200 NW Menninger Rd., Topeka, KS 66618.

Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka is assisting the family with arrangements.
