Robert O. “Bob” Appling, Jr., 65, of Topeka, passed away peacefully in the home of his daughter, Shawna and grandson, Ivan on Friday, July 3, 2020. He was born May 9, 1955 in Topeka, the son of Robert and Verna Estella (Richmond) Appling, Sr.
Bob attended Highland Park High School. He was employed by Seymour’s and Topeka Metal Specialties. Bob retired from Walmart as an Auto Technician after 14 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, bowling, shooting pool, darts, golf and watching television.
Survivors include one son, Robert Appling, III of Emporia, one daughter, Shawna (DJ) Smith of Topeka, five grandchildren, Trent, Rachel, Abby, Aiden and Ivan, one great-granddaughter, Milli and one on the way, his siblings, Jack Frakes of Topeka, Judy Bowen of California, Debra (Bob) Meyer of Topeka and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his significant other, Terry Sisson, his grandson, Axel Hays and two brothers, Howard Frakes and Ralph Frakes.
Bob loved watching Ancient Aliens with his 3 year old grandson, Ivan. Their last words to each other were “I will love you forever”.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2020 at the residence of his daughter, Shawna. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
