When I met EZ he was a patient in Cardiac Rehab (?2012 or 14) After years of participation in our cardiac rehab program, he became a volunteer in our department. But most of all EZ was a friend who is greatly missed. EZ touched many lives while volunteering in our department. His smile & laughter were contagious. I know it has been over a month since EZ passed on to a better place, but I think of him every day. On this Thanksgiving I am thankful I had him as a friend. I'm sure his family members know what a special man he was, I also want you to know he touched many lives and was an inspiration to many people. Rest in Peace Friend.

I attended the Kansas Law Enforcement Academy back in 1987 (Class #95) with EZ when he was starting his career with the Riley County Police Department. EZ always stood out and was easy to remember through the years because of his professionalism, dedication to the job, positive attitude and of course his laughter. We ran into each other again years later when we called for assistance and the KBI Swat Team with EZ and the other members of the KBI'S first HRWT responded to Dickinson County. I was lucky to also work with EZ before he retired when I took a job with the KBI in 2006. It was ALWAYS a pleasure to work with EZ and get his input if I had any questions.
I just wanted to say to EZ's family that EZ was one of the nicest and most professional law enforcement officers I had ever met in my 33 years of service and I will never forget him. May God Bless EZ and his Family.

My condolences to EZ's family on your loss, he was a good man and a friend to everyone. I worked with EZ both before and after I joined the KBI and he was always fun to be around and had a great attitude. I could tell more than a few stories about working together but will offer up just one short one. We were working a case in Yuma, AZ and took time to walk across the border into Mexico one afternoon. I don't recall the name of the town but will always remember EZ haggling with a street vendor over an imitation Rolex. Much to my surprise he got the guy down from $25 to $5 for a very realistic looking knock off. I said I'll bet that thing won't last 6 months but it was still going strong years later. Still chuckle over that memory and wish I had bought one too!
Rest easy my friend, and know you are missed.

My sincere condolences to EZ’s family. I was fortunate to serve with EZ in the KBI, and remember his enduring smile and his respect for everyone in the office. EZ had a special quality of making friends and helping others be successful. He was a great example for others to follow.
Sincerely, Terry Knowles

EZ will be missed. He and I came on the KBI the same day and retired the same day, so we spent a lot of time together over those years. Good Bye old friend until we meet again. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

As a patient in the cardiac rehab room last year, it was my pleasure to meet Mr. Monts. He was a most gracious and pleasant coach, a true gentleman. I am sorry to hear of his passing.

My sincere condolences to Ezell's family.
This is hard to write because I never expected we would loose this wonderful man.
I will miss Ez very much, he was a great friend and an amazing human being.
Ez and I had one of those amazing friendships where we could talk about anything. He was always such a good listener. He was very good at looking at things in a logical manner and talking thru anything.
But we also had the kind of friendship that stood up to a lot of teasing and Ez was a good sport about it. Like the time he found out I was going to be visiting Topeka and he called and asked if I could bring him a case of root beer. There was a brand they sold in Colorado that he could no longer get in Kansas.
After a couple days, he called me back to see if I was able to find this root beer for him and I could tell he was calling from his office at KBI. So I lowered my voice and said...'Yes sir, I was able to secure the stuff you requested. Don't worry, I'll get it across state lines no problem.'
For those who knew Ez...you can imagine how embarrassed he was when I said this. He was quick to let me know we were talking on a secure line and that he appreciated me picking up the root beer for him.
To that I responded...'Sir call it root beer if you like but I will be delivering your package from Colorado this weekend.'
He laughed so hard but I could tell he was embarrassed and thinking how he was going to explain that conversation.
That was the basis of our friendship. He was always so professional and I was the total opposite. We made each other laugh when life was serious...I am really going to miss Ezell.
He always spoke so highly of his son and his ex wife and I admired the heck out of him for that. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.
Ezell Monts is one soul we will all miss dearly.

EZ was a great friend of mine and of our family. Together we drove to Colorado twice and stayed with my daughter. We travelled to the mountains, which he had never seen, walked the Boulder Mall, and ate some wonderful food. We had many laughs together and I will remember him fondly. We have lost a good friend and my sincere condolences to all of his family, especially his son Andrew who he spoke of frequently.

My most sincere condolences to family and friends. I had the privilege of working with EZ on the HRW Team and in Gaming. When we would meet at work we frequently bumped fists and I would say Thunder and he would say Lightening. He was a friend as well as a brother. I will miss him much. Rest In Peace EZ we shall meet again.
