Melba S Jacoby
1923 - 2021

Melba S Jacoby, 97, passed on January 9, 2021 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was born October 8, 1923 in Pinckneyville, Illinois.

Melba dedicated her life to family and church. She served Central Presbyterian Church for over 70 years as a Session and Deacon member, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, choir member, camp counselor, and in many other capacities. She loved her church, and with her husband made it the focal point of their lives. They were active in Presbyterian Mariners (serving as Skippers), supported Christian Children’s Relief Fund, Topeka Rescue Mission, and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She was a long-time member of Christian Women’s Club and her Circle at church.

Being active in her children’s lives, she served as Brownie Leader, Den Mother and perpetual room mother. As an excellent seamstress, she enjoyed making clothes for herself and others. She enjoyed her bridge club, bowling league, and golf.

Melba was a wonderful, sweet lady - never entering into arguments and always ready to listen and help others. A Christian woman who never had anything unkind to say about another. A witness to her faith in Christ.

She leaves behind her beloved family, son Dr. David Jacoby (Sue), Osage City; daughter Joyce Cobb, Topeka; daughter-in-law Anita Jacoby, Topeka; grandchildren Bryan Cobb (Kristin), Reagan Cobb, Robert Jacoby III, Daniel Jacoby (Tracie), Brianna Ford (Travis), John Jacoby (Kolbie), Shaun Kirkpatrick (Tracy), and Jeff Kirkpatrick; and great-grandchildren Jessica Cobb, Ivy and Grace Ford, ReAnne Kirkpatrick, Christopher Shaun Kirkpatrick, Briar Kirkpatrick, and Brandon Hogue; and sister-in-law Margaret Josephson

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Minnie Scherle; husband Robert E. Jacoby; son Dr. Robert E Jacoby II; infant sisters Leatrice and Deloris; brothers Rev. Kenneth Scherle (Phyllis) and Arthur Scherle, Jr. (Kate); and brother-in-law Dr. Don Josephson.
