Tom graduated from Topeka High School in 1965. He was employed by Josten's Yearbook Company for 40 years before retiring. He, his father and brother owned and operated Powell Photography. He later was employed by First Call of Kansas. Tom was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church, the Mayetta Masonic Lodge No. 393 AF&AM and the Arab Shrine. He volunteered at the Stormont-Vail Heart Center, the PAL and the Salvation Army.
Tom married Snowda Grange Quy on May 1, 1987 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include children, Becky (Doug Hodge) Bahr of Topeka, Dawn (James) Turner of Topeka, Wes (Ann) Quy of Topeka, Steven (Kelly) Quy of Topeka, eight grandchildren, his siblings, Larry Powell of Junction City and Carol Needham of Topeka and his brother-in-law, Jim Hall of Topeka.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Hall.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Masks and social distancing must be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 S.E. Michigan Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66605.
