Helen I. Farrar, 100, of Tecumseh, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at a Topeka care center. She was born September 19, 1920 in Osborne, Kansas, the daughter of Emmett and Alice (Surprenant) Higgins.

Helen graduated from Salina High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Emporia Teachers College. She was employed as a teacher in the Salina area and also served as a substitute teacher in the Shawnee Heights USD 450 School District. Helen also sold World Book-Childcraft. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church.

Helen married Larry Farrar on June 24, 1945 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2002. She was also preceded in death by one son, Steven Lawrence "Steve" Farrar on January 26, 2020.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Bierley of Topeka, two grandsons, Bobby (Amanda) Bierley of Kansas City, Missouri, Travis Farrar of Topeka and one great-granddaughter, Zelda Bierley. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law, Marla Farrar of Topeka.

Graveside inurnment will take place at Noon Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Bethel Cemetery in Tecumseh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made West Side Baptist Church, 1008 SW 4th St., Topeka, Kansas 66606 or to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
