David graduated from Topeka High School. He was an Army Veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed musician. He played the piano and keyboard and sang and was known as “Fingers Fender”. He was a member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene where he played in the church band.
David married Betty Maag and they were married for 33 years. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Nicky R. Bassett of Grove, Oklahoma, one step-son, Wes Johnson of Topeka, eight grandchildren, Justice, Lindsey, Haley, Brooke, Jacob, Erin, Drake and Isabella, two great-grandchildren and his brother, Ed Fender of Topeka.
David was preceded in death by two sons, Brent and Brian.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, 3501 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, Kansas 66614.
