Laura Viola (Oehm) Shortle, 98, of Topeka, Kansas passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka.

She was born February 26, 1923 in Summerfield, Kansas the daughter of Sigmund Oehm and Minnie (Heiserman) Oehm.

Laura was employed by Lollar Alterations as a seamstress for approximately 5 years prior to retirement.

Laura married Carl Shortle, Jr. on June 14, 1952 in Beatrice, NE. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1994.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda (Stan) Raby of Oceanside, CA and Pam (Mike) Sullivant of Maple Hills, KS; her siblings, Ruby (Don) Harmer, Raymond (Marilyn) Oehm and Grace Saathoff all of Marysville, KS; her grandchildren, Matthew Raby, Chris Raby, Aaron Sullivant, Jason Sullivant and Darah (Abel) Velarde; her great grandchildren, Tyler Raby, A.J. Velarde, Joshua Velarde and Caden Sullivant.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Diane; her seven siblings, Rudolph, Everett, Marie, Orval, Velda, George and Opal.

Laura enjoyed gardening, bowling and sewing. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Honoring Laura’s request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Laura will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Marysville, 1601 Broadway, Marysville, KS 66508. Interment of Laura’s cremated remains will be held at Marysville City Cemetery at a later date.
