Penny St. John, 67, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. She was born September 25, 1953 in Topeka, the daughter of Alva Nelson and Madeline Yvonne (Wilson) Hochstedler.

Penny graduated from Humansville High School in Humansville, Missouri. She was a self-employed cosmetologist. Penny loved music. She was a member of the Dover Federated Church and was a founding member of the Pastense Bluegrass Band. She also played and sang with many other musicians. A Jam Session was one of her favorite activities. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening.

Penny married Jim St. John on May 7, 2010 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He survives. Other survivors include children, Michael Alan Uhl of Topeka, Melinda Rena Uhl of Topeka, one granddaughter, Adalynn Yvonne and her two brothers, Alan Hochstedler of Tecumseh and Jack Hochstedler of Kansas City, Missouri.

Penny was preceded in death by her two brothers, Daniel Lee Hochstedler and Randall Luther Hochstedler.

A Celebration of Penny’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Dover Federated Church. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Dover Federated Church, P.O. Box 232, Dover, Kansas 66420 or to a local hospice organization of your choice.
