Joan Elizabeth Hochard, 77, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021.

She was born August 9, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Warren Dickerson and Johanna Christine (Lierz) Hylton. She attended Saints Peter and Paul High School in Seneca, Kansas and graduated from St. John's Academy of Cosmetology. She also attended Washburn University.

Joan was self-employed as a beautician and later retired from KTA as a turnpike supervisor over the two Lawrence Interchanges and two Lecompton Interchanges.

Ms. Hochard was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, of Topeka.

Joan married Maurice Edward Hochard on November 12, 1960 in Seneca, Kansas. He survives, along with her children Julie Ann Conway (Mark Leon) of Mulvane, KS and Thomas Joseph Hochard (Tiffany Elizabeth Brown-Hochard) of Marana, AZ; grandchildren Tyler Leon Conway (Kirsten Rachelle) of Rose Hill, KS, Paige Ann Creech (Ronald Derrick) of Rose Hill, KS, and Taylor Janee Wilson of Topeka; great-grandchildren Mark Leon Conway II and Maci Rachelle Conway, both of Rose Hill, KS; siblings Richard J. Hylton (Kathleen M.) and Bonnie R. Irwin (John C.), both of Topeka and Jeanne A. Lucas (Robert) of Peru, IL; siblings-in-law Irene Donahy, Wayne Hochard, Maxine Hochard, Theresa (James) Rethman, Rita (Gary) Smutny and Patti Smith; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Warren and Johanna; her parents-in-law Clarence Joseph and Anna Leona (Miller) Hochard; and her siblings-in-law Rosemary and Bud Haug, Clarence Hochard Jr. and Evelyn Hochard, Jerry Donahy, Emmy Hochard and Glen Hochard.

Joan loved reading, quilting, and playing Sudoku and puzzles. She liked walking every day and enjoyed bowling - she played on a league (KDOT) with her husband for many years. Her family was her life; she loved being a big sister to her sisters and older brother and especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, September 24th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5973 SW 25th Street in Topeka. Interment will follow at the mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, 801 SW Westchester Road in Topeka. A rosary will be recited at Dove Cremations and Funerals - Southwest Chapel on Thursday, September 23rd at 7:00 pm; the family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church (for masses for Joan), 5973 SW 25th Street, Topeka, KS 66614.
