My condolences on the loss of Maureen. My wife (Sandy) met Maureen at a water exercise class at the YMCA quite a few years ago. They became friends and when Sandy mentioned that she had always wanted to play the piano, Maureen volunteered to teach her at no charge. Sandy took lessons for quite a while until she started to come down with Alzheimers which she has had now for 2 or 3 years. We got to know Maureen and Bill quite well and even after Sandy had to quit the lessons and after Bill passed away we would go to Aldersgate to visit Maureen and quite often take a small gift. I also was a volunteer income tax preparer and did their tax return for many years. We always enjoyed our visits with her and I think she enjoyed visiting with us. We had a good visit a couple months ago and she seemed fine. I was shocked to see the obituary last Sunday and have been thinking about her all week and wondered what happened. Again, my sympathies and if you could take a couple minutes to let me know what happened it would be appreciated, Also how is Sydney doing.

So many times I wanted to return to Topeka and see your Mother, your Grandmother. Caring for my own Mother, my illnesses, this or that got in the way. It was very important for me to see her, to reminisce about the good times we shared. The laughter. For her to meet my husband.
Topeka has sad memories for me except for your Mother’s kindness and radiance. We were closest of friends—she, Denise, and me. Through all the devastating times at the Department of Education, she was the loving smile that could break through dark clouds of any day. She wrote a song on the piano for me. Should any of you want a copy, I’m glad to send it to you. And I can still sing “Bill” if you sit me on a log next to a campfire. And she sold my home for me when I left Topeka.
Clever, mischievous, accomplished, caring, generous, cheerful—a woman with a gentle essence is how I will always remember Maureen.
Losing a Mother is one of the greatest sorrows. You have my deepest sympathy.

I became acquainted with Maureen when she volunteered at Stormont Vail. Her efforts in the surgery waiting room and at the customer resource center were always 110% and she served with dedication and with a passion for helping people. One great lady.

“Until next time, I think I will go home and play my piano.” Last words from my friend and piano teacher, Maureen, after lunch last Wednesday. I was trying to get ahold of her to attend a concert with me, and learned she had passed away yesterday. She will be missed by many.??
