Howard “Dean” Owen, 83, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022.

Born June 17, 1938, in Topeka, Kansas, son of Howard C. and Jimmie K. (Jackson) Owen.

Dean graduated from Topeka High School in 1956. He went on to work for Patterson Plumbing, eventually achieving the level of Master Plumber. He later opened his own business, Owen & Son Plumbing working along side his son Kelly Owen.

Dean served in the Army Reserve from 1955 until his retirement in 1998.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Arab Shrine Legion of Honor, VFW, American Legion, Alcoholics Anonymous and he attended First Baptist Church of Topeka for over 40 years.

Dean married Patricia Patterson on June 22, 1958, in Topeka, Kansas. They later divorced and Dean married Earlene Knoles on May 24, 1980, in Topeka. Earlene precede him in death on February 28, 2003.

Survivors include his children, Kelly (Margie) Owen of Topeka, Kristy (Lyle) Keller of Wyoming and Korey Owen of Wyoming and Kacey (Bill) Cattoor-Heckard of Topeka; a stepdaughter, Stacey Cook of Topeka; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Kay Reed and her son, Scott Reed of Topeka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepson, Michael Moore.

A memorial ceremony will be held at First Baptist Church at 3033 MacVicar Ave Topeka, Kansas on January 22 at 11:00 am.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Arab Shrine Hospital Travel Funds, 1305 S Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66612.
