In Memory Of
Duane Ray Swanwick
1950 - 2022

Duane Ray Swanwick, 71, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022. He was born in Oswego, Kansas on August 21, 1950 to Francis Darrell “Sonny” Swanwick and Alma Arlene McCorkle Swanwick of rural Oswego, Kansas.

He attended Sunny View Elementary School and later graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1968. Duane graduated from Kansas State University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science, with an emphasis in animal science and biology.

Duane married his first wife Virginia, with whom he had one son, Emmanuel Mark of Arlington, TX, and whom he traveled across the world as a non-denominational missionary for the glory of God. Following their return to the United States and subsequent divorce, Duane returned to agriculture and cattle, working herds throughout Wyoming, Montana, Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. In the early 2000’s, Duane became a journeyman pipefitter, journeyman boilermaker, and foreman working with multiple companies to build, shut-down, and turn-around numerous power plants throughout the United States. He won numerous safety awards at multiple job sites.

April 21, 2007, Duane married Traci Gillespie in Independence, KS, and became a father to her daughter Jessica. As a young boy, Duane and his brothers went on many road trips with their parents. This love of travel grew when Duane traveled throughout India, Mexico, Israel, and the Andes Mountains for nearly a decade, and later continued traveling the United States with Traci and Jessica. Duane continued working cattle through the end of his life, and closely monitored Kansas State University football every year. Duane fostered a love of classic cars and vehicles throughout his life.

Duane was a devout Christian, a true cowboy, and the center of his family. To know Duane was to know love and friendship, and that laughter was near.

He is survived by his wife, Traci Lynne Swanwick of Alma, KS; his son Emmanuel Swanwick, of Arlington, TX; and his daughter Jessica Gillespie Swanwick, of Dallas, TX; his brother, Roger Swanwick of Wann, OK; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Alma and Sonny Swanwick of Oswego; and his brother Daryl Swanwick of Fort Scott.

An outdoor celebration of Duane’s life will be held in March, weather permitting.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, a cause Duane was interested in due to the experiences of numerous friends and loved ones.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
