Donna Fern Winkenwader, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2022.

Donna was born December 11, 1930, in Barnes, KS, to Frank and Fern Taplin. She was the oldest of three children.

At the age of 15, Donna married her soulmate, John Winkenwader. After living several years in Waterville, KS, they moved to Topeka, where they raised their five children. She was married to John for 64 years until his death in 2011.

Donna retired from her local Safeway grocery store, where she loved getting to know all of her neighbors.

Donna was a very talented seamstress, who made hundreds of wedding dresses, quilts, and her children’s clothing. She loved the outdoors; often spending time perfecting her flower garden and traveling the world. Always one for adventure, she even skydived with her grandson at the age of 90!

She was an active member of the Town and Country Christian Church in Topeka.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her son, Mark; her 3 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

She is survived by her daughters, Gayla (Jon) Eggers, Wanda (Dennis) Craig and Laura Fair all of Seattle, WA; her son, John F. Winkenwader of Topeka; her brother, George (Patty); her sister, Kay (Lloyd); her 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Town & Country Christian Church, 4925 SW 29th St., Topeka, KS 66614. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Midland Hospice Care Inc., 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to the Kelly House of Topeka, 1800 SW Fairmont Rd., Topeka, KS 66604.
