Gary Wayne Gibeson, 71, of Carbondale, after battling colon/liver cancer for over 5 years, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022.

He was born November 2, 1950, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of James and Alma (Woodward) Gibeson. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1968 and received bachelors’ degrees in business and computer science from Washburn University.

Gary was most recently employed by the Federal Home Loan Bank and also worked for the State of Kansas. He also worked as a music teacher at Manning Music.

Mr. Gibeson was a member of the Independent Church of God and Kansas Prairie Pickers where he taught bluegrass.

Gary married Elsie S. Carlson on May 22, 1971 in Topeka. She survives, along with his siblings Dan Gibeson of Topeka and Judy Meinholdt (Virg) of Las Vegas, NV; his aunt Naomi Gibeson of Kansas City; sister-in-law Ellen (Scott) Strickler of Texas; brother-in-law Albert (Linda) Carlson of Tecumseh, KS; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Don Carlson of Chicago.

Gary enjoyed music and driving his hot rod and tractor.

Gary was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. The family will receive friends for an hour before the service. There will be a reception after the service at the Dove Southwest Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Prairie Pickers Association, 5831 SE 53rd Street, Berryton, KS 66409; the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st Street, Topeka, KS 66604; or the Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Avenue, Topeka, KS 66608. Please put a note in the “memo” of any checks that the donation is in memory of Gary Gibeson.
