In Memory Of
Marty "Mac" Austin
1951 - 2022

Marty “Mac” Austin, 70, passed away on June 22, 2022 with his wife Debbie by his side.

They met in college, then went their separate ways. They reconnected 30 years later and were married on September 14, 2002, celebrating 20 years of a true love story.

Mac was born August 2, 1951 in Topeka to Ira W. and Harriet (Hayes) Austin. He graduated from Eskridge High School and the University of Minnesota. He was the owner and administrator of Eventide Convalescent Center for 40 years until his retirement in 2010.

Mac enjoyed golf, traveling and gardening. He was especially proud of his tomato garden which he planted for years so his residents at Eventide could have fresh tomatoes each summer. He was an avid KU fan, traveling to the Final Four tournaments for over 30 years.

Mac was a loving and generous man. He cherished his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; son, Ryan Figgs; granddaughter, Haydin Figgs, both of Gilbert, AZ; brother, Bob (Mary Lee) Austin, Tucson, AZ; sister, Jeanette Oesterlin, Fort Mill, SC; niece, Heather (Rob) Freeland, Advance, NC; sister-in-law, Cyndi (Will) Warren, Topeka; and other extended family.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Tuesday, July 26th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Topeka Country Club.

We are forever grateful for the compassionate care he received from Midland Care.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or Harriet Hayes Austin Memorial Scholarship for Nursing, C/O Topeka Community Foundation, 5431 SW 29th Street, Topeka, KS 66614.
