In Memory Of
William Patrick "Bill" Thornton Sr.
1944 - 2022

William Patrick "Bill" Thornton, Sr., 77, of Scranton, passed away Monday, June 27, 2022.

He was born July 15, 1944, in Texas, the son of James D. and Mary (Rentas) Thornton. He served in the Air Force during Vietnam.

Bill was employed by the K-Mart Distribution Center in Lawrence, Kansas for 24 years.

Bill married Betty Ann Thornton on October 16, 1965 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2013. Survivors include their children, William "Bill" Thornton, Jr. (Bobbie) of Winter Haven, FL, Donovan Thornton (Ruth) of Overbrook, Spicey Henning (Erich) of Scranton and Rebecca "Becky" Sue Ralston (Terry) of Carbondale. He loved all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and just became a great-great-grandpa in March. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; his brother John David Thornton; and his granddaughter Cassie Ralston.

Bill planned to be 110 years old and to be shot by a jealous husband. He enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, and spending time with his grandkids. He loved helping anyone he could – he was a volunteer firefighter for 35 years.

A memorial ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 9th at 11:00 AM at Cross Road Community Church at 512 Mason Street in Scranton. When the service is held, please come dressed casually and comfortably; he wanted everyone to have a good time. Bill requested no flowers but loved plants – the family asks that you plant one in his honor. Memorial contributions may be made the Cross Road Community Church in Scranton.

Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
