Karen Sue Lafferty, 78, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022.

She was born October 11, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of James and Melba (Slater) File.

Karen graduated from Topeka High School in 1961. She married Larry Lafferty in 1962 and was a homemaker for many years. In 1980 Karen began working for Frito-Lay in Production and retired in 2003.

Mrs. Lafferty was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka and volunteered with Catholic Charities.

Survivors include a Son, Danny Lafferty of Topeka; daughter, Kimberly Barnes of Goddard, KS; grandchildren, Shauna Barnes and Caulder Barnes of Goddard, KS, Marissa Lafferty of Topeka, Masey Lafferty of Highland, KS, Robbie Lafferty of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchild, KCcie Lafferty and sister-in-law, Jolene File of Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda Ellis Morstorf and brother, James M. File.

Karen was an avid reader. She enjoyed being outdoors, watching movies, bowling, crocheting, bird watching and gardening. Most of all Karen loved spending time with her grandchildren and participating in their activities.

Honoring Karen’s request, cremation is planned. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Service details will be updated as soon as they become available.
