Dr. James Jay “Jim” Costello, 68, of Topeka, passed away Monday, September 19, 2022.

He was born June 2, 1954, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of James and Helen (Kelly) Costello. He was a graduate of Columbia Heights High School and received a degree in Rehabilitation Services from University of Wisconsin-Stout and received his PhD in Rehabilitation Counseling from Florida State University.

Dr. Costello was a counselor educator at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas for many years, retiring in 2019.

Survivors include his step-daughter, Mariah (Spangler) McElmurry, and her husband, Bridges of Springfield, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four of his siblings.

Dr. Costello enjoyed watching baseball, specifically the Minnesota Twins, playing with his two dogs, Emory and Timmy, and listening to the Allman Brothers Band.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A celebration of his life will be held at the Rockfire Clubhouse in Topeka, KS from 11am-1pm on October 15th, 2022. The address is 3313 SE Blackjack Way, Topeka, KS 66609. Dove Cremations & Funerals, Southeast Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.
