Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Joseph Michael Hogan, Jr.; son, Michael E. Hogan; father, Alva A. Bean; mother, Margaret E. Bean; sisters, Donna Chapman and Margery Litchford and brother, Eldon Bean.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Jeanne M. Kearney (“Skip”), sons Edward L. (Christina) Nelson and Leslie R. Nelson. Daughter-in-law, Barbara J. Hogan and sister, Ginger Simpson.
Marie was born April 9, 1928, in Topeka, Kansas to Alva and Margaret Bean. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1945 (Topeka), and married Joseph M. Hogan in 1946 (Holton).
Marie lived most of her life in Topeka and Bonner Springs, Kansas. In addition to working at home, Marie was employed at Bell Telephone and Security Benefit Life Insurance. She retired (along with her husband), from Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI).
Marie enjoyed sewing, knitting, needlepoint, cross-stitching, and quilting.
Marie was a long-time member of The Church of the Nazarene led by Pastor Richard Guilfoil where she had many friends and acquaintances.
Marie’s greatest calling in life was as a wonderful, loving grandmother and aunt. She had 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, 8 nieces and 7 nephews. Family and friends adored her.
Marie will lie in state from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2023 at Topeka Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation, 4021 SW 10th St., #334, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
