Jack Russell Smith, 78, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022. He was born June 10, 1944 in Cocoa Beach, Florida, the son of Jack and Dorothy (Brannen) Smith.

Jack graduated from high school in West Virginia. He was an Air Force Veteran, enlisting when he was 17 years of age. He was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base from 1962 - 1966 where he met his future wife, Frances whom was employed at the dry cleaners on the base. He was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 35 years before retiring. He was a member of the FOE.

Jack married Frances Call in 1965. To this marriage were born three daughters, Leisa (Doug McCarter) McConnell of Topeka, Christal (Jeff Groves) Snyder of Topeka and Wendy Smith who lived 23 hours before passing away. Frances preceded him in death in 1984.

Jack later married Reta Johnson in 1989. Her children include, Paul (Donna Aubert), Berronica Vinsonhaler, Dawn Vinsonhaler and Robert (Amanda Fritts) Vinsonhaler all of Topeka.

Also surviving include fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and his siblings, Bill Smith of Oregon, Bruce Palm of Arizona and Terri Killon of Arizona.

Jack was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Robert’s house in his garage at 2015 SE Colorado Ave. in Topeka. The family will provide food, simply bring your own drinks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the KSU Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, Kansas 66506.
