Ruth M. Covert, 85, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023. She was born March 9, 1938 in Topeka, the daughter of Albert and Agnes (Sigfried) Hefner.

Ruth graduated from Highland Park High School in 1957. She and her husband, Vernie owned and operated Covert's Wrecker Service and Covert’s Drywall for over 40 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Ruth enjoyed Bingo and Slots at the casino. She was also an avid racing fan.

Ruth married Vernie D. Covert on June 19, 1960 in Topeka. They were married for 63 years and were inseparable. Survivors include children, Vernie (Sharon) Covert, Jr. of Topeka, Darla (Jeff) Covert, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and her brother, Harry Hefner of Topeka.

Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy Rush, Henry Hefner, Tommy Hefner, Genevieve Heston, Bobby Hefner and Judy Douglas.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Cremation will follow the service and private inurnment will take place in Topeka Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 817 SW Harrison St., Topeka, Kansas 66612, Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606 or to Enhabit Home Health, 3620 SW Fairlawn Rd., Unit 100, Topeka, Kansas 66614.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
