Robert John “Bob” Metzger, 78 of Topeka, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Bob was born April 19, 1945 in Alton, IL. to Vincent E. and Mildred A. (Baer) Metzger. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1963, and the University Of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree in 1974.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacy Technician during the Vietnam War.

During his career as a pharmacist, he spent more than 43 years working at the Highland Park Pharmacy, both as an employee and owner of the Pharmacy, before retiring in 2017.

His passions included reading books, watching movies, doing jigsaw puzzles, and computer games, and teaching himself to play piano after retirement, however his greatest joy came in helping his family out in any way he could. He was truly a humble and silent hero to us all.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent E. and Mildred A. (Baer) Metzger, and older sister, Carolyn (Metzger) Kuta. Survivors include siblings, Karleen Anderson, Carmen Metzger, Kenneth and Pam Metzger, and Paul and Tammy Metzger, 12 nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and graveside services are pending in Missouri.

Dove Southwest Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
