Daniel Pleasant Wade, 92, of Topeka, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023.

He was born March 11, 1931, in Platte County, Missouri, the son of Walter and Hazel (Grisham) Wade. He attended Platte City High School where he was kicked off the football team for eating chocolate pie, leading him to quit and join the Navy. After a year he returned to Platte City and joined the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1970, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. He then purchased Elliott's Key and Mower Supply in 1979, renaming it A-1 Lock and Key. He owned the company with his wife until 1999.

Mr. Wade was a former president of the Ichabod club and a member of the North Topeka Kiwanis and the First United Methodist Church of Topeka. He was also a member and the president of the MKLA – the Missouri-Kansas Locksmith Association.

Daniel married Mary Ann Schmollinger on May 19, 1955 in Platte City, MO. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2014. Survivors include their children, Denise Humphrey (Scott) of Topeka, Debra Miller of Washington, KS, Dana Bodnar (Ted) of Atlanta, GA, and Darren Wade (Augustine) of Topeka; grandchildren Erin Humphrey, Tyler Humphrey, Blake Wade (Leah), Drew Wade, and Austin Wade, all of Topeka; and numerous honorary grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; five siblings; and grandson Damon Bowman.

Daniel was a strong supporter of Washburn athletics and enjoyed old TV shows, morel mushroom hunting, fishing, and flying small planes. Prior to the death of his wife they traveled extensively across the United States.

Daniel was cremated. Interment will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery with military honors on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 1:30 p.m.. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Booster Room at the Washburn University Petro Allied Health Building. Light refreshments will be served.
