James Dyer, 79, of Topeka, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. He was born August 14, 1944 in Nitta Yuma Mississippi, the son of Joe and Lizzie Dyer. His parents preceded him in death.

James was employed by USD 501 schools for many years before retiring. He was a member of True Light Church Ministries. He was a Usher, served on the kitchen committee and helped out in other areas as he was able.

James enjoyed having coffee in the mornings with his coffee group friends Danny, Rocky, Dale, John, Johnny and Sam.

James married Rachel Leatherberry on December 31,1967 in Hollandale, Mississippi. She preceded him in death on October 24, 2021. He was also preceded in death by one son, James Earl Dyer, Jr., on August 10, 2007.

Survivors include children, Brenda L. Dyer of Topeka, Ronald "Ronnie" E. Dyer of Topeka, six grandchildren, Jenae, Kiesheaira, Marcus, Roneisha, Kiana, and Zy'Keiyah, eight great- grandchildren, Laniyah, Diamond, Immanuel, Marcio, Nova, Octavion, Amiyah, Kashton and he has another great-grandchild on the way as well as a host of other relatives and close friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2023 at True Light Church Ministries, 2046 SE California Ave. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
