Allie Christine Montgomery, 33, of Lawrence, passed at home on Sunday, March 1, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born March 23, 1992 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Chris and Doneen (Wilson) Childress. She graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 2010. She received her bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from UMKC Dental School in 2015.
Allie worked for numerous dental clinics in the Topeka and Lawrence area. She loved educating her patients about dental health and its impact on their overall health, even volunteering to help provide public school dental screenings.
Allie gave her life to Jesus at the age of 7 with the understanding that He would be in charge of her life and would follow His plan now and into the future. She deeply desired for others to know Him as well and exemplified His sense of compassion in both her daily life and cancer journey, even going as far as participating in a variety of trials and studies at National Institutes of Health. All of this while also loving hard, living joyfully, maximizing the fun and beauty of life and never losing her sense of humor through the difficulties along the way.
Allie was active in her church at Velocity Church of Lawrence, even at one time serving briefly on staff. She was involved in the Douglas County Relay for Life through the American Cancer Society, serving as a chair for the event for the last 5 years. Allie also participated annually in Head for the Cure's Metro KC 5K Run/Walk.
Allie enjoyed dancing, traveling, kayaking, watching movies and walking her dog, Kona. She loved cheering on her favorite sports teams. Allie also cherished serving her community through church and cancer fighting organizations.
Allie married Mitchell Montgomery on October 24, 2015 in Topeka, Kansas. He survives. Other survivors include her parents; mother and father-in-law Steve & Libby Montgomery; paternal grandfather Gregg Childress "Dada"; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Don & Madonna Wilson; and her paternal grandmother "Nana", Mary Anne Childress.
A Celebration of Allie's life will be held at 10am on Saturday March 21 at Velocity Church, 4000 West 6th Street, Lawrence, Kansas, 66049. With a short reception to follow until 12pm also at Velocity Church.
