Alma L (Schweitzer) Baker, 82, of Topeka , passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

Born on December 3, 1943 to Herman J. and Marie L. (Sargeant) Schweitzer of Derby, KS. Alma graduated from Derby Senior High School in1961 before going on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from Kansas State University in 1965. After guiding three rambunctious boys to school age, she worked as an administrative assistant for Merchants National Bank (later Mercantile Bank, FirstStar Bank) before retiring from US Bank.

Alma was an active member of Brookwood Covenant Church and the Topeka Genealogical Society and her local stitching group. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and was an avid cross-stitcher.

Alma celebrated 59 years of marriage to Larry Baker after being married on June 26, 1965 in Derby, KS. She is survived by sons Mark (Lynette) Baker and Scott (Michelle) Baker, and granddaughters Blaire Baker and Lizzie Baker. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Paul Dean Schweitzer, husband Larry, and son Brian (Joy) Baker.

Alma’s wishes were for cremation. A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2026 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, Kansas with a reception to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Genealogical Society or the Brian Baker Legacy Scholarship Fund at Washburn University. Contributions to the Brian Baker Legacy Scholarship Fund may be made payable to “Washburn University” with Brian Baker Legacy Scholarship noted in memo line.
