On Thursday, April 25, 2024, Ardith Ann "Ardie" Meadows passed into Eternity at her home in Topeka, Kansas. Ardie was born July 9, 1952 in Burlington, Kansas to Norman Allen Vick and Etta Elaine (Leonard) Vick.
A gifted Seamstress, Ardie worked for many years as a tailor in specialty menswear shops including Eaton's and The Gentleman's Rack. Ardie also had a passion for advocacy. Following her time as a tailor, she worked as a Direct Support Professional for developmentally disabled seniors in TARC's Day Services program from which she retired. Ardie continued sewing long into retirement and enjoyed making clothing and décor for her herself, her family, and friends. She was also an avid gardener and while she tried to instill a green thumb in her children, she often ended up rescuing their plants.
Ardie loved being active and was often outdoors. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed jogging with her dog, Quinta, adventuring with her grandchildren, painting, crafting, and traveling. In the past few years, her family was blessed to travel with her to the Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, Four Corners, New Orleans, the Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone in addition to regular trips to walk area nature trails.
Ardie is survived by three children, Jonathan (Heide) Meadows, Aaron (Felisha) Meadows, and Maria (Blake Hull) Meadows all of Topeka, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her dog Quinta, her sister, Shari Raybern, brother, Kevan (Gail) Vick both of Lawrence, Kansas as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Ardie joins in Eternity her parents, beloved younger sister Lynette Rasmussen, with whom she shared a birthday, brother-in-law Donald Raybern, sisters-in-law, Dr. Kay Meadows, Marilyn Simons, Aileen Long, and her parent-in-laws, Kenneth Earl and Mary E. Meadows.
A memorial service for Ardie will be held Monday, May 20, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Lawrence First United Methodist Church Downtown Campus, 946 Vermont St., Lawrence, Kansas 66044. Light refreshments and fellowship will follow. The family will then proceed to Oakwood Cemetery where Ardie's remains will rest with those of her preceding family.
In lieu of flowers, Ardie's children humbly ask well-wishers to consider donation in her memory to The Bluefield Project to Cure Frontotemporal Dementia, TARC Inc, Helping Hands Humane Society, or simply plant a flower or tree and think fondly of their mom.
