Arthur Ronald "Ron" Rush

Arthur Ronald “Ron” Rush left this earth to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 29, 2026. He was born at Independence, Kansas on April 18, 1940 to Vivian and Arthur Lynn Rush. Ron was in Hawaii with his mother when his father, serving with the US Navy died aboard a ship at the bombing of Pearl Harbor. When he was eight years old, he met Max Safranek, who would become his step-father.

Ron attended Topeka Public Schools and graduated from Topeka High School. He joined the US Navy serving 4 years. He attended Washburn University and was then employed with Santa Fe Railway where he worked for 40 years.

Ron was an avid hunter, golfer and fisherman. He enjoyed officiating girls softball at Tecumseh Park and Lake Shawnee. He was an usher at KU Basketball games for 20 years and also enjoyed watching our local teams sporting events. In the summer, he was always busy making sure that his lawn was in great shape and producing a big vegetable garden.

Ron is survived by his wife, Nancy at home, two daughters, Shelly (Troy) Kivitter of Carbondale, Julie (Lester) Garst of Topeka, and a son, David (Alison) Rush of Portland, Oregon, grandchildren, Toby (Janelle) Robinson of Tecumseh, Ryan (Jordan) Garst of Wichita, Boone and Charlotte Rush of Portland, Oregon, great-grandchildren, Micah and Colton Robinson of Tecumseh and Cameron Holdren of Topeka.

Ron was proceeded in death by his granddaughter, Kelsey Koehn.

A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, 334 SE Tecumseh Rd., Tecumseh, Kansas 66542.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
