Bill J. Stanley, 87, of Topeka, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
He was born April 5, 1935, in Coodys Bluff, Oklahoma, the son of James F. and Covie (Wheeler) Stanley. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1953.
Bill was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 2000.
Mr. Stanley was a member of the Cushman Club of Kansas and of America, the Gas Engine Club of Lathrop, Missouri and the Meriden Antique Engine and Threshers Association.
Bill married Mary Goodman on August 12, 1995 in Topeka. She survives, along with his children, Diana Stanley of Topeka, Steve Stanley of Mission, Kansas, Bryan Goodman (Rick Kidwell) of Canton, Ohio, Denise Zody (Loren) of Linwood, Kansas, and Sherry Hutchcraft (Virgil) of Manhattan; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings Phyllis Smith of Arlington, Texas and James T. Stanley (Leila) of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Mavis of Topeka and his sister, Mildred Harrison of Coffeyville, Kansas.
Bill enjoyed auctions, flea markets, camping, scooter meets and sitting on his patio. He loved spending time with his friends and family.
Bill was cremated. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 10th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. A private family interment will be at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5375 SW 7th Street, Topeka, KS 66606.
