Billy Joe Brooks, Sr., 68, of Topeka, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 21, 2023. He was born October 9, 1954 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of James and Mary Jane (Mosby) Brooks, Sr.
Billy graduated from Topeka High School. He had been employed by Hills Pet Nutrition.
Billy married Maria Ramirez on December 22, 1973; they later divorced.
Survivors include his children, Billy (Cindy) Brooks, Jr., Esperanza (William) Roberts, Felicia Brooks, Demetria (Eric) Leslie; 17 grandchildren, Kylei Brooks, Kaleb Brooks, Kamri Brooks, Aujanay Patton, William Roberts, Brianna (Donald) Davis, Ciara Roberts, Terrance Dean Jr., Rayneisha Miller, Mi-Kell Miller, Michael Miller, Jr., Marvel Miller, LaReasha Tibbs, LaMar Tibbs, Jr., LaTrease Tibbs, DeMarion Mildfeldt, Mercedes Mildfeldt; 34 great-grandchildren, Noelle Mathias, Alonzo Lax, Azayo' Dowd, Ajarion Jefferson, Arion Jefferson, Arionna Roberts, Amaya Roberts, William Roberts III, Sanaa Patton, Maleea Keith, Savayah Patton, Masiah Rayton, Donald Davis Jr., Nay'Ara Davis, Nasii Davis, Paisley Fields, Terrance Dean III, Tyson Dean Brandenburg, Alaya Dean Jones, Brandon Best Jr., Royale Best, Araya Dean, Keonta Glover, Kemoni Glover, Mikenzy Miller-Trujillo, Makario Miller, Brooklyn Miller, Melay Miller, Michael Moore, Solei Moore, LaMar Tibbs III, LaNyla Tibbs, Nayeli Rodriguez, Camila Rodriguez; one great-great-granddaughter Arlayah Lax; and his siblings, Eva Mae Arnette of Mississippi, James (Ernestine) Brooks, Jr. of Arkansas, Troy Brooks of California, Carol Brooks (Willie) Taylor of Arkansas, Frank Brooks of Texas, and Earl (Vanessa) Brooks of Topeka. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Alonzo Brooks in 2004; one grandson, Del Juan Patton in 2016; and three siblings, Clementine Robinson, Lawrence Brooks and Aaron Brooks, Sr.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 27th at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Avenue in Topeka. The family will receive guests for an hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family.
