Billy Joe Haid Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on July 31, 2025, in Harveyville, Kansas, at the age of 72. Born on July 20, 1953, in Topeka, Kansas, Billy lived a fulfilling life marked by his dedication to family, work, and his community.

Billy is known for his career in homebuilding, where he contributed his skills through the years. He especially enjoyed trim and finishing work, taking pride in the homes he helped create. His work extended to the Ottawa Coop, where he found joy at the Elevator, engaging with farmers, sharing stories, and where he made friends. A true jack of all trades, there was little that he could not fix, which endeared him to many.

A humorous memory for those who knew him includes cooking eggs and bacon for his beloved dog, Smokey every day. He was a devoted father and grandfather, taking great pleasure in attending games and coaching his children in baseball. Family gatherings were often centered around his love for grilling; he took the opportunity to prepare a good steak and was well-known for his homemade chicken noodles. His sweet tooth was well known among family members.

Billy was rooted in his upbringing on a farm, where he developed a love for working on cars and tractors from an early age. He carried these interests into adulthood, where he continued hunting and fishing, often at Pomona Lake and Melvern Lake. A lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club, Buckmasters, and the NRA. He found joy in the great outdoors and shared many memorable moments with friends and family through these hobbies. He recently restored a 1948 Farmall H and was in the process of restoring a 1968 Camaro with his son's.

His personality was characterized by a goofy sense of humor and a huge heart. His grandchildren affectionately referred to him as Papa, he like to take them around the land on many different vehicles. They often sought him when they needed help.

Billy is survived by his devoted wife, Debbie Haid, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his sons, Billy Ray Haid and Joseph (Grace) Albert Haid, along with grandchildren Joey, Levi, Chris, Parker, Rhyland, Zach, JJ, and McKenzie. He is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Leona (Jimmie) Guffey, Cathy (Merle) Ard, and Phyllis Hartzell, as well as his mother, Doreen Haid.

Billy was preceded in death by his father, Billy Haid Sr., and sisters, Sharon Baum and Ellen Crique. His legacy of love, laughter, and hard work will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
