Carolyn K. Norwood, 72, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022. She was born September 16, 1949, in Topeka, the daughter of Gene and Loralie (Oelke) Freed.
Carolyn graduated from Osage City High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Science from Washburn University. She was employed by St Francis Hospital and Florence Crittenton in Topeka. She was a church member at Big Springs United Methodist Church and later at Berryton United Methodist Church.
Carolyn married William C. Norwood on August 21, 1976 in Tecumseh, Kansas. They later divorced.
Survivors include three children, Bill (Nicole) Norwood of Berryton, James "Jamie" Norwood of Topeka, and Amanda Norwood-Strieby (Grant Strieby) of Kansas City, Missouri, and seven grandchildren, Mckenzie, Madison, Mason, Tristan, Allison, Taylor, and Bailey. Also surviving are her siblings, Ronald Freed (Debra) of El Dorado, Linda Hollenbeck (Jim) of Overland Park, and Wayne Shackelford of Osage City.
Carolyn was an avid volunteer her entire life. She volunteered as the Camp Jayhawk nurse and oversaw the health lodge. She was an active member in the Big Springs UMC and Berryton UMC and Kiwanis. She also volunteered on a variety of church mission trips.
She spent every moment she could with her family, children, and grandchildren. She was a mother, friend, and caretaker to all.
Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of Carolyn's life at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Berryton United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Rd., Berryton, Kansas 66409 or to the Berryton Kiwanis Club, 4608 SE Oak Bend Dr., Berryton, Kansas 66409.
