Chance Michael Lucas, age 28, of Topeka, Kansas passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024. Chance was born on October 14, 1995, in Topeka, the proud son of Gary and Kris (Grace) Lucas.
A gifted student and athlete, Chance was a member of the 2014 graduating class of Washburn Rural High School where he participated on the 2012 WRHS State and 6A State Championship team and was selected to the All-State team in 2013. He absolutely loved being a part of the WRHS soccer family. He also enjoyed being a member of the golf team at Washburn Rural.
After graduating high school, Chance furthered his academics by attending Johnson County Community College where he continued to play soccer his freshman year. Chance ultimately completed his education by receiving two degrees in accounting and finance from The University of Kansas. While at KU, Chance was a member of the Pike Fraternity. This past June, Chance was exceptionally proud to have earned his CPA designation.
Chance was employed for five years at Mize CPA’s and recently started a new job at Midwest Health. Chance also served on the Topeka Transit Authority Board.
In his spare time, Chance enjoyed playing golf with his dad, sister and “golfing-buddies,” and every weekend, watching football, basketball, soccer and golf tournaments on television with his close friends and his girlfriend, Harley.
We so loved that Chance chose to live here in Topeka. We had so much fun hanging out at our pool with him and all of his friends. There is going to be a huge void in our lives without him here. Our family is so very close and our love for one another is endless. We love you Chance and we are so proud of you.
Chance leaves behind a loving legacy of his parents, Gary and Kris Lucas of Topeka; sister, Megan Lucas and Max Catherine of Kansas City, KS and his grandparents, Thomas and Judy Grace of Bozeman, Montana. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Gerald “Jed” and Beulah Lucas of Sublette, Kansas. Chance is also survived by his loving aunts, uncles, cousins and admiring friends who will deeply miss him.
