Charles E Southard

Charles E. Southard, 85, of Topeka, passed away Saturday morning, August 15, 2026. He was born December 29, 1940 in Topeka, Kansas. His parents were Harold and Mabel Southard. He graduated from Topeka High school in 1958. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1959 and served for six years.

Charles was employed by Santa Fe railroad, where he worked as an accountant until he retired at the age of 62. Charles married Kay Marquis in April, 1963 in Topeka, Kansas. She preceded him in death in 2019. Survivors include his son Greg Southard; Deborah Henderson, and her children, Josh Henderson and Alexandria DeBorde.

Charles, who preferred to be called “Chuck,” was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hiking, biking, gardening, and playing tennis. He was also very active in his church, doing maintenance, participating in Bible studies, and working in Stephen’s Ministry, which ministers to hospital patients.

Cremation is planned, with services at a later date.
